I am driving home with Lucas. We are sharing a laugh at my expense in the car. I am just enjoying the moment with him. I glance over and see the face of a young man with a laugh that I don't know. He's voice is deep and rarely cracks when he is talking anymore.
I asked him "When did you become a man?" I point out that I can't call him "squeakers" anymore since his voice hardly cracks anymore. He sweetly says I can still make my voice crack, in his best squeaky voice. All I can do is just smile and giggle. He knows that I miss who he used to be... my little boy, my mini me. He continues to be sweet, kind and compassionate. I see a young man who is starting to look more like his dad and a little less like me. I miss the old him but enjoy seeing the young man emerge. I love you my sweet boy.

I remember those days with my sons, now 26 and 28, when I looked over and thought, when did you become a man? Definitely bittersweet.

I love how you capture these moments, the glances that give you a picture of who they really are, not the person you remember them to be. It also reminds me of the times when I can see the future-them, too. Thank you for putting words to this beautiful phenomenon.

It’s crazy how old your kids are. Seems like it happened over night.

Oh my! I remember speaking on the phone with Payton and I heard a man voice for the first time. I swear it happened over night. It's a bit shocking to hear it for the first time.

I love how you capture the change happening before your eyes - from boy to young man, but always your little boy!! I posted about my boy tonight too. They have our hearts.

It is amazing how you see them every day and then a glimpse, a look, a gesture, makes you really realize how old they are getting. It makes my heart sad and happy at the same time!
